Endangered Species
An endangered species is a species of organisms facing a very high risk of extinction.
Species losses have always been a natural part of life. However, through habitat destruction, species introductions, pollution, over-exploitation and climate change, we are now facing our greatest extinction crisis since the dinosaurs were wiped out 65 million years ago. And as we diminish the world’s wealth of plants and animals, we are also creating less functional landscapes that are unable to satisfy human needs – for food, fuel, medicines and other commercial products – or provide vital ecological services.
